Whatsapp started this feature back in November 2020. With this feature turned on, Whatsapp messages get disappeared depending upon the time frame set by the users. Users get the option to get the message to disappear in 24hours, 7 days, or 90 days. This features works in both groups and personal chats.
Why did Whatsapp launch this feature:
Whatsapp says that this feature was launched to enhance the privacy of users. Some users don’t want their previous chats displayed hence Whatsapp introduced this feature.
Now with the help of this feature, all the previous chats will automatically get disappeared according to the time set by the user. But it is to be noted that, chats sent before turning on this feature will not disappear.
You still need to be careful because it’s possible for people :
- To save the message before it disappears.
- To screenshot the message before it disappears.
- To capture a photo of the message through another phone.
How to use the disappearing message feature
To switch the feature on or off for android and iOS users:
- Open WhatsApp
- Open the individual chat
- Tap on the contact’s name at the top
- Select Disappearing Messages
- Tap Continue (if prompted)
- Select on or off
To enable or disable disappearing messages on a group chat you have to be an admin. If you are:
- Open WhatsApp
- Open the group chat
- Tap on the group name at the top
- Select Disappearing Messages
- Tap Continue (if prompted)
- Select on or off
To enable or disable disappearing messages on WhatsApp Web or Desktop apps:
- Open WhatsApp Web/App
- Open the individual chat or group
- Tap on the contact or group name at the top
- Select Disappearing Messages
- Tap Continue (if prompted)
- Select on or off.
