Got An RV, Trailer, or Camper? Know Where To Store Them

It’s a lot of fun to drive around in your RV, trailer or camper. Especially with sites like area guides where you can even check nearby restaurants or parks wherever you are! By doing this, you can see a lot of the country. But what do you do when you want to store it? How much will you have to pay for it? Are there other things to consider, as well?

There are a lot of options out there, but they each have their own pros and cons. It’s up to you to find the one that will work best for you.

Here are some of the choices:

Your Home

There are a few areas around your own home where you could possibly park your vehicle. They include:

  • Your driveway
  • Your garage
  • Your backyard
  • An RV Garage that you build.

On the plus side, you can go out and get your vehicle whenever you want. You also save money, since you won’t have to pay for storage.

There are cons, though. Your Homeowners Association (HOA) may have rules about what you can or cannot park in your driveway. You also have to worry about weather and you may also have space concerns, since it might displace one of your other vehicles, like your car or SUV. If you live in an area where there is a lot of theft, you might have to worry about it being stolen or vandalized.

RV Self Storage Facility

You might not be able to store it at your home. Not to worry. There are a lot of storage facilities. There are pros and cons to those, though.

The pros include more security, and if you store it outdoors, it is less expensive than outdoors. The security features include fences, video surveillance, and you will probably have to input a code on a keypad to enter.

The only real con here is that you have to worry about the weather, since the elements can be rough on your vehicle.

Covered RV Storage

This option protects your vehicle from the elements. They also tend to have larger size options, which means you have a very good chance of your vehicle being able to fit into the storage unit. There is security, with the same features as the self-storage one.

Covered does not mean indoors, though. You might have to worry about strong winds and extreme heat. So you need to keep that in mind when arranging for this method of storage.

Indoor RV Storage

If you are putting up your vehicle for the winter or for a long period of time, this is a great option. It will be shielded from the weather – there may even be climate control options – and there will be an added level of security, since you will be able to lock the unit yourself.

You will likely find yourself paying a lot more for this option over the others. There can also be size limitations, so if you have a very large vehicle, it might be tough to find something that fits.

As you can see, it can seem like an overwhelming number of choices. It doesn’t have to be a difficult decision, though. If you know your circumstances and can eliminate a few of them quickly – like knowing what your HOA would allow, for example – then the best choice will present itself. Then you can go ahead and store the vehicle and know that it will be ready for you when you need it in the future.
