Every smartphone manufacturer releases some of their devices with the Fast Charging feature. It has become a norm for high-end devices to have fast charging. These companies also claim to charge most of the battery in a very short amount of time.
But even with Fast Charging being so popular there is no standard that all these big manufacturers agree upon. All of them have their own standards which they use.
It is all based upon the electricity that flows into the device. Normally most phones and other devices are capable of handling 5V/2.4A. But when it comes to fast charging the manufacturers increase either the voltage or the ampere or both to increase the charging speeds.
Nothing harmful will happen. The Fast Charger will charge your device at the normal rate because a charge above the limit of the device’s circuit can not pass through it.
On the charger, you can see its specifications and with the help of those specifications, you can understand if you have a Fast Charger or not.
No, your Fast Charger can not harm your smartphone even if your phone does not support fast charging.
Apple uses USB Power Delivery for fast charging and claims you’ll see a 50 percent increase in battery life in just 30 minutes. In order to get these speeds, however, you need to use at least an 18W adapter with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable.
MediaTek Pump Express has various different versions that have different speeds and works with different MediaTek powered devices.
Motorola uses two different proprietary fast-charging standards, Rapid Charging and TurboPower. For less expensive devices Rapid Charging and for high-end devices TurboPower.
Dash Charge and Warp Charge are licensed from Oppo, and work the same as Vooc, bumping up amperage to 5V/4A to achieve an output of 20W. While Newer models like the OnePlus 8 Pro support 30W wired and wireless charging thanks to Warp Charge.
Vooc is Oppo’s proprietary fast-charging standard. The company has long been a leader in fast charging technology, and it currently holds the record for the fastest charging speed with its 65W adapter that can fully charge the Reno Ace in just 31 minutes.
The most common fast charging standard is Qualcomm’s Quick Charge because of the widespread nature of the company’s chipsets. Qualcomm recently announced Quick Charge 5. The new standard supports fast charging at 100W and can completely recharge a 4,500mAh battery in just 15 minutes. It will initially be supported on Snapdragon 865 chipsets and upcoming premium Qualcomm processors.
