Importance of Backlinks in SEO

 Importance of Backlinks

If you have anything about SEO, you have come across the word “backlink” many times. For beginners in SEO, you may be wondering what a backlink or inbound link is, and why they are so important for SEO. Back links become important to the scope of SEO. In this Page, we will try to explain you what a back link or inbound link is and why they are so important.
Backlinks are incoming links or inbound links (IBL’s) that are created when one website or webpage links to another. It is an incoming link from an external site to specific webpage or website. The number of inbound links or back links is an indication of the importance of that website. Backlinks are so important for Search Engine Optimization because some of the search engines, especially Google, will give more credit to the sites that have a good number of quality back links, and consider those websites more relevant or in top than others in their results pages for a search query.
It is not only sufficient to have a large number of backlinks; they need to be quality links. For search engines to determine the quality of backlinks the content of the site is critiqued. When search engines calculate the importance or relevance of a website to a keyword, they consider the number of QUALITY backlinks to that site. So we must not only be satisfied with merely getting backlinks, it is the quality of the inbound link that matters. The content of the sites you have inbound links with needs to be relevant to the content on your website. The more relevant the links are to your site helps in determing the quality of the links. If your site is about Technology than linking to a site about medicines is not relevant and is therefore not a quality link. If inbound links are found on websites with an unrelated content, they are considered as less relevant.
For example, if a webmaster has a website about how computer runs, and received a backlink from another website about Microsoft or any other technical website, then that would be more relevant in a search engines assessment than say a link from a website about boat. The more relevant the website is that is linking back to your site, the better the quality of the back link.
While it is easy to manipulate links on a webpage or website to try to achieve a higher ranking, it is harder to influence a search engine with external inbound links from other sites. This is also another reason why inbound link factor in so highly into a search engines algorithm. Lately, however, a search engine’s criteria for quality backlinks has gotten even tougher or harder, thanks to unscrupulous webmasters trying to achieve these inbound links by sneaky or deceptive techniques, such as with hidden links, or automatically or manually generated pages whose purpose is to provide backlink to websites. These types of pages are even called link farms, and they are not only disregarded by search engines, but linking to a link farm could get your website banned permanantely.
Importance of Backlinks
By making quality inbound link you are attracting numerous visitors to your website. You cannot just build a site and expect that people are going to find you without being pointed in the right direction. Numerous People previously used Reciprocal Linking to achieve this target.
Reciprocal Links were recently discussed in a Google update as one of the targets for its latest filters. In order to boost site rankings through the number of backlinks, some of the webmasters had agreed upon the Reciprocal Link Exchanges. This link exchange is a condition when one webmaster puts a link on their site to point to another webmasters site. Many of these types of links were not relevant links and were disregarded by search engines. The inbound links does not count but the outbound links were still counted which lowered the relevancy score of many sites and caused them to drop off from the Google map.
Currently Google is working on a patent that will deal with the popularity of websites being linked to and how trustworthy a website is that you link to from your own site. This means that there is a chance of getting into trouble or problem for linking to a bad website. To prepare for this a webmaster must choose relevant websites to link with, websites that do not have an enormous amount of outbound links on a page and ones that do not practice bad Search Engine Optimization techniques. By doing all this things webmaster can reduce the risk of having our reciprocal links discounted. So, this is all about the baclinks and importance of backlinks.
